Description

Plastic pollution is everywhere, in the oceans, in streams, in our bodies, in fish and in the Great Atlantic and Pacific Plastic Gyres. According to the United Nations Environ-ment Program, we are producing 400 tons of plastic waste every year. 50 Ways to Reduce Plastic Pollution explains how individuals can reduce plastic pollution during their daily lives when shopping, eating, buying clothing, furniture and other products. From shopping bags to wool coats, from bubble wrap to packing tape, this book explains how to live well without plastic.
Two examples from the book show how individual action can make a huge difference. Eighteen million 18 mat-tresses are disposed of annually in the United States, 200 million worldwide. Most of these are made of plastic foam. The book recommends organic mattresses, which are better for sleeping, healthier because they do not off-gas dangerous chemicals and they are recyclable. Over 700,000,000 single-use plastic laundry detergent jugs end up in landfills and oceans each year in the United States. The book recommends laundry sheets and powder detergent sold in cardboard boxes. The book also provides lists of products that replace plastic bags and other unnecessary trash.
50 Ways to Reduce Plastic Pollution was put together by the California Association for Recycling all Trash, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to reducing plastic pollution by recycling and use of alter-native products. The book is available on Amazon, Apple and at bookstores, in paperback (ISBN 979-8-8689-7103-7) for $15 and as an ebook, (ISBN 97908-8689-7104-4).
